Co-ownership or not?

I first heard about co-ownership three years ago (and when I talk to people I realize that a lot of them haven't even heard of it yet)

At one point we had three dogs, but little by little all three of them got old and left us 🙁 Even though we had decided to be dog-free for a while, not even a month had passed when we realized that we couldn't live without a dog.
We started looking, called all the breeders one by one (Goldens have always been our dogs, so they should stay that way), but we all got the same answer: none at the moment, maybe they will be in the next litter, we have to wait at least 6 months... (it was the time of Covid when the demand for dogs was significantly higher than the supply)
Then we met Marijana (Glamour shine) who told us the same thing, BUT if we took on co-ownership, then maybe we could get a dog from this litter.
And that was the first time we heard about co-ownership. It seemed unacceptable to have a dog that wasn't just ours, that would have to go to some shows (and we weren't happy about that), and worst of all - the bitch would have to have 2 litters, which meant being with the puppies for 2 months. Two
We'll be without a dog for months?? Terrible! Unacceptable! But the option was either do it now or wait months for normal ownership.
We slowly realized all the advantages of co-ownership that Marijana mentioned and in the end we agreed.
Today we co-own two dogs with Marijana and we would never think of having just one dog again 😀

There are so many advantages that you'll quickly forget those two months with the babies.
- from day one you have the full support of a great expert, without ever asking yourself "would she have responded the same way if it were her dog"😀
- exhibitions - we arrange everything in advance and if we have some "important" plans for that weekend, then the dog will go to another exhibition on another weekend
- but if we happen to have plans that the dogs don't quite fit into (these situations aren't common, but they do happen), they still have their own second home that they're happy to go to anyway (the team is there!) and not to mention that it doesn't cost anything
- dog food is not at all a negligible item for large dogs, and breeders have special favorable prices (and now we are breeders too, which means we don't pay pet store prices)
Of course, it doesn't matter whether it's a male or female dog. The male goes out to do his job a little more often, but it's usually only for a day or two and he comes home happy, and after a few weeks we get a message that the job was successfully done, so together with the owners of the female dog and our co-owners, we look forward to the new additions and follow their development (how many "families" we already have all over Europe😀)
And now we have experienced our bitch's first litter and survived it all together. We followed all her changes during pregnancy - it's interesting to experience, we watched the babies progress and visited them (and in the process we realized that we are not her number 1 priority at the moment - the puppies are her first focus and she doesn't suffer for us, which was what we feared the most)
And so that we wouldn't be without a dog for those two months, while she's with the babies - Marijana always has a dog that needs a little socialization, a change of environment or whatever 😀 so in the past two years, in addition to our own dogs, we've temporarily adopted different dogs, which also helps us get to know and understand our own better by recognizing their differences

So, if you ask me - co-ownership is an absolute YES

How great it would be if breeders could continue to do their job successfully without any dog having to live their whole life only in a kennel and be denied family life, trips to the sea, to the mountains, to the park with the team, etc.

Sora - Zagreb

Ipak, znatizelje radi upitali smo sto to tocno znaci i podrazumijeva i ponovno imali 1001 pitanje :)

Lexy - Jesenice, Slovenija

I've been thinking about a female dog for some time, because our golden retriever (also from the Glamor Shine kennel) loves working with dogs. Because we travel a lot, it was always a dilemma, how to solve the care for 2 dogs. We have already found ourselves for one, with two it is more difficult.

When Marijana and Anna first published pictures of the smooth-haired retriever, I immediately fell in love with the breed. Since they were just planning the first litter of that breed, it was a great opportunity, let me ask right away, but co-ownership is also possible for that breed. After explaining to me what the conditions, advantages and disadvantages of co-ownership are, I decided after careful consideration that this method is good for both the new owner and the dog itself. It was just a bit of a dilemma, because I live in another country and there is almost 250 km distance between us. Fortunately for me, Marijana and Anna agreed and the "excruciating" wait for the day began, when I would be able to see the puppies for the first time and decide which female dog would come to my home.

What does co-ownership bring?
In my case, many good things and very few weak things. Our Lexi participates in various competitions, which she visits together with Marijana and Anna. She also takes care of breeding inspections and tests that a pedigree dog must have. In that place, I simply don't know what I would do without her, because she does it very professionally and above all with her heart. From the very beginning, they always stand by you, advise you about the breeding itself and help you with all the problems or. questions that arise.

Since we travel a lot with the family and often unfortunately our Lexi can't be there, we can easily bring her to Marijana and Anna, who happily take care of her, and at the same time, she has a large canine companion who adores her most of all.

Lexi is the most "hyperactive" member of our group and we happily take care of her, pamper her and conquer the peaks with her. She completed a few educational courses, and now she is very impressed with fetching training... no ball is safe anymore

One of the major advantages of co-ownership (besides the more pleasant price) is certainly that our Lexi has the opportunity to have her own cubs and experience herself as a mother. During this period (before and after calving), she is cared for by Marijana and Anna, who, with their knowledge and experience, can easily help with safe and comfortable calving and proper breeding of the young.

For us, the only weak point is that during that period, our Lexi is not at home (a little more than 2 months), but we can still visit her without any problems.

Donna - Zagreb

We have nothing but words of praise for Glamor Shine, or Marijana! Our Donna has been a co-owned dog since 2018. At first it sounds awful and impossible to people, how can we share our dog with someone? But they think so only because of insufficient knowledge and expertise, because that was my first thought when Marijana mentioned that option. Co-ownership turned out to be the best decision we made, and I'll tell you a few reasons. First and foremost, Marijana's knowledge is invaluable, her support is constant and she always has answers to all our questions and concerns. And as someone for whom this is the first dog in his life, that was very important. From veterinarian recommendations, food to communication about exhibitions, absolutely everything you can ask - Marijana has the answer! One of the things that was very important to us as people who like to be in motion was flexibility in movement. Co-ownership allows us more flexibility when it comes to planning annual leave or commitments, as Marijana and Anna are always available to take care of Donna while we are away. And she doesn't lack company, love and attention there, but she has it in abundance! And I think that because of the time she spends in care, Donna is much more socialized and adaptable to different situations. One thing that people don't count on is emergency situations or unforeseen circumstances, like what happened to us and then we were calm because we knew that our Donna was in good hands! I wholeheartedly recommend co-ownership with Marijana to everyone who is ready and wants to have a dog with a guiding hand. For us, it is certainly one of the better decisions we have made!
