When is it time for another one? 🐶 🐶

We hear this question more and more often when new owners come to pick up their puppy. Our experience shows that the best time is between 1.5 and 4 years of age of the first dog. Why? The first dog has matured, acquired habits (hopefully good ones haha) and built a character that will greatly help the new puppy adapt to the new home.

🐶 It often happens that an older dog does not want to accept a small, cheerful, but hard-working puppy for the first few days. Sometimes he reacts harshly, stresses him out and the puppy whines. But that is completely normal. When the older dog shows the puppy what is allowed and what is not, they will soon sleep together, play and simply adore each other.

🐶 Some breeders, including veterinarians, recommend bringing a new puppy into your home when you have an old dog "to wake him up and encourage him to be more active or even rejuvenate him". A puppy is not an elixir of youth and it is unrealistic to expect it to rejuvenate your grandpa or grandma, but it can encourage him to be more active and ultimately a zest for life. However, you need to weigh very carefully what is actually good and what is not for your old dog. For example, is he 8 years old and just lazy (he is not an old dog, just a little older lazy dog who really needs a young dog to get him active) or is he an older dog (10+ years old) who already has health problems. In this second situation, do not get a puppy because he will mistreat your older dog, he will not like it and he is aware that he can no longer keep up with him, so he will either ignore him or constantly react to him with a dose of aggression because it simply bothers him and he is no longer safe in his environment because of the puppy.

🐶 Some people want to get 2 puppies at once. As a way to "grow them up together", often a brother and sister. Since the sister should not be spayed before she is at least a year and a half old, there is a high possibility that she will have already had 2 heats by then, so you will have to keep them separate for a while, which is quite a problem for someone who is not used to it.
Furthermore, two puppies at the same time = double trouble. They will both pick up bad habits much faster than good ones and will be much, much harder to raise than one dog.
Maybe two puppies at the same time are cute, but that's it and nothing more.

🐶 People are often shocked when they cheerfully declare that they want two at once and then get an answer from us that it's best to find another breeder because they can't get two puppies from us at once. Some ask why, and when you explain it to them, they realize they were wrong and get one puppy, then another in a few years, while some don't understand, thinking that we're just talking nonsense about buying from someone who doesn't care about anything except the money they're going to get. And then after a few months, problems arise and they call for advice :D

🐶 Two dogs are an ideal combination, while three is already a pack. If your circumstances allow, a second dog is the ideal choice for you and your pet. And no, your dog cannot come to choose a puppy from the breeder 😂😂😂 Believe me, such inquiries exist, because a friend just recently had such an inquiry!! You are the one who will supervise their play during the first week and allow them to accept each other.

Only the best for our dogs!!
